I Love You Rituals are interactions designed to use with children in infancy through the age of 8, and help to form a bond of acceptance and unconditional love between a child and a caregiver. Children crave love and acceptance, and their brains learn best when they feel love and acceptance! Adding I Love You Rituals into your daily routine can optimize learning and attention span, increase cooperation, improve behavior, and protect them from stress. As adults, it is so easy to get caught up in our daily tasks and obligations, and we may not give our children true, undivided attention. I Love You Rituals can help us to do just that! Here is one to try. Hold your child's hand, and using a yellow or orange marker, draw a sun on their hand while singing to them "Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, Won't You Please Shine Down On _____". Look into the child's eyes, and give the sun the same color eyes as the child and a big smile. Your child will remember this moment of interpersonal connection each time they see the sun on their hand! You can use any song, finger play, handshake, or anything you make up! Just include eye contact, touch, and undivided attention.
